Last week, we posted the top five ways we use social media. But today I want to chat about Pinterest. A lot of you are already fans but some of you might still be curious about how to use it. Pinterest is a handy online tool we use at Braid Creative to capture and curate all that inspires us when we’re surfing design blogs and websites.
Prior to Pinterest, I was doing a lot “right-click saving” of images that would pique my interest while surfing some of my favorite design blogs. These images would then go into an unorganized folder on my desktop labelled “Inspiration” - never to be seen again. Sound familiar? I joined Pinterest about a year ago when they rolled out their new social media tool with a big launch supported by bloggers like myself. I was really excited to be an early adopter of Pinterest and at the time, had no idea that it would not only get me so organized but that it would also serve as a way to connect with other likeminded tastemakers.

So to break it down:
Pinterest is used as a place to gather and organize inspiration you come across online. It’s a collection of visual bookmarks.
1. Set up an account with Pinterest (or request an invite).
2. Establish your pin boards. Here are some staff favorites.
3. Start pinning! We recommend using the Pin Bookmarklet.
4. Make friends and browse other pins.
5. Install Pinterest on your iPhone!

I had Pinterest on my mind today (when isn't it?) and posted about it too. The best thing about it is it gets better the more you use it - the more pins you have, the more clear your style and preferences becomes. Plus I love the Pinterest logo and font. It is probably my most favourite ever.
Jen! I saw that - great minds think (and pin) alike. I want to make sure Braid readers are directed to your fantastic post about Pinterest "pinspirations" too: http://ramblingrenovators.blogspot.com/2011/09/pinspirations-vol1.html
I have a question: I am a huge google reader user. Can I pin to the image in my reader feed or do I have to pin from the actual website. I don't go to blog home pages that often since I use a reader..... Thanks for the video and for your help!!
Angela - Great question. Unfortunately, you cannot pin from Google reader. I hope they figure out a way around this one day because I'm a huge Google reader fan too. HOWEVER, do you know about the "next" button in Google reader? It's under Google Reader "goodies" - it's a button you install in your browser bar (like the Pin It) button that takes you through your reader but to each blog post so you can see it in it's original context - but with little effort from your end. Of course, you can't scroll through quickly, like you can with your reader, but I love seeing a post in its original format.

I have been trying to figure out how to use Pinterest for my business. I created my own account which I log in to with my Facebook profile. However, I have five Facebook pages for five different divisions of our company, and I would love to make a brand page for each of them on Pinterest. Each division represents a completely different sports team with their own content, merchandise, etc, and it is really important that there be no cross over from one board to another. I'm just stuck on how how to get started!
I am stumped! I cannot figure out how to create a Pinterest account for my company. I have my own account and I login with my Facebook profile. But I need to make a distinct profile for the five different divisions of my company, and they must be completely separate from my personal profile and each other. How do I do this?
Jeanette - I think you would just need to have 5 different Pinterest accounts and don't login with your Facebook. That means you would have to have 5 different email accounts attached to each Pinterest profile.
But please keep this piece of Pinterest etiquette in mind:
Avoid Self Promotion
Pinterest is designed to curate and share things you love. If there is a photo or project you’re proud of, pin away! However, try not to use Pinterest purely as a tool for self-promotion.
